Job Description Science Academic Mentor | Waltham Forest | September 2026 Start £444–£513 per week via PAYE (inclusive of holiday pay) | Full-time | Term-time only | September 2026–July 2027 A secondary school in Waltham Forest is seeking a Science Academic Mentor to start in September 2026. This is an ideal opportunity for a high-achieving graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in education before moving into teacher training or a longer-term school-based career. The school has placed a strong focus on improving outcomes in Science across KS3 and KS4, with a curriculum built around clear sequencing, practical understanding and frequent low-stakes assessment to strengthen long-term retention. Biology, Chemistry and Physics are all supported through structured intervention programmes, helping students close gaps in knowledge and improve exam performance. Science Academic Mentor – September 2026 | Waltham Forest In this role, you will work directly with students who need additional academic support, helping them to improve understanding, confidence and attainment in Science. The focus is on targeted intervention rather than whole-class teaching, with a strong emphasis on progress tracking and exam preparation. You will be responsible for: • Delivering 1:1 and small-group Science intervention sessions • Supporting KS3 and KS4 students across Biology, Chemistry and Physics • Reinforcing key scientific knowledge and exam technique • Monitoring progress and feeding back to teaching staff • Supporting engagement and motivation in Science lessons The school offers: • A structured and supportive Science department • Regular CPD focused on behaviour, pedagogy and intervention • Experience working alongside experienced Science teachers • Strong systems for tracking and improving pupil progress • Clear progression routes into teacher training The successful candidate will hold a strong Science-related degree and have previous child-centred experience such as tutoring, mentoring or working with young people.
