You'll be working with small groups (5 learners + 1 LSA) and will have the freedom to think outside the box when it comes to teaching. For example, rather than teaching percentages with handouts, you might take your learners to the shops during a sale to see discounts in action. The focus is on engagement, relevance, and impact, making learning meaningful for each individual. PLEASE NOTE: This role will be working across various locations in Northamptonshire which could include places of work, community centres or a learner’s home. This is a driver essential role. Salary Scale £33,000 - for Qualified Tutors (with QTLS or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training Qualification) £30,000 - for Tutors (without QTLS / Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training Qualification) What You’ll Be Doing: Teaching morning and afternoon sessions (45-minute lessons with 15-minute breaks) Planning and delivering sessions aim to provide life skills and embedding maths and English and support learners to achieve their educational goals Adapting teaching methods to be interactive and engaging (so co-curriculum design around interests where possible) Using real-world experiences to make lessons come alive Supporting learners in building confidence and independence Implementing the PACE Model – a therapeutic approach to supporting young people What We’re Looking For: Teaching Qualification (ideally QTLS / Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training) Experience or passion for working with learners who have SEMH, Autism, ADHD An ability to teach without relying on worksheets or traditional methods Creativity in lesson delivery – have you used alternative learning approaches before? Working Pattern • Flexible part-time and full-time opportunities • Tuition delivered during school hours (Monday to Friday) • Long-term and ongoing tuition assignments available • Travel to pupils' homes, schools, or community venues across Northampton and the surrounding areas is required Key Responsibilities • Deliver engaging and personalised 1:1 tuition tailored to each pupil's individual needs. • Adapt teaching strategies and resources to support a range of SEND needs. • Plan lessons that promote academic progress, confidence, and independence. • Monitor pupil progress and complete session reports after each lesson. • Build positive relationships with pupils, families, schools, and local authorities. • Encourage pupils to develop resilience, engagement, and a positive attitude towards learning. Must-Have Requirements • A minimum of two years' UK teaching experience. • Experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). • Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum and differentiated teaching strategies. • Excellent communication, behaviour management, and relationship-building skills. • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, or the ability to travel reliably between tuition locations. • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one. Nice-to-Have • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), PGCE, or another recognised teaching qualification. • Experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, speech and language needs, dyslexia, or other additional needs. • Experience delivering tuition within alternative provision, specialist settings, or pupils' homes. • Knowledge of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
