About the role
Full-Time | Permanent
Start Date: ASAP
A supportive and forward-thinking primary school in Gravesend is seeking a skilled and motivated Intervention Teacher to join their team on a full-time basis, starting as soon as possible. This role is focused on delivering targeted academic support to pupils who require additional intervention to close gaps in learning and make sustained progress.
This is not a general classroom teaching role. The Intervention Teacher will work with small groups and individual pupils across the school, delivering focused, purposeful sessions designed to support progress in core areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics. The role is central to the school’s commitment to inclusion and high achievement for all pupils.
The school has a clear structure in place for intervention work, with strong collaboration between class teachers, senior leaders, and support staff. Interventions are purposeful, monitored closely, and adapted based on pupil progress. You will have time to focus on planning, delivering, and evaluating interventions, rather than juggling full-class responsibilities.
Key elements of the role include:
• Delivering targeted intervention sessions to small groups or individual pupils
• Supporting pupils who are working below age-related expectations
• Focusing on core subjects, particularly literacy and numeracy
• Adapting teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs
• Tracking progress and feeding back to class teachers and leaders
• Supporting pupils’ confidence, engagement, and learning behaviours
• Working closely with SEN staff where interventions overlap with additional needs
This role would suit a teacher who enjoys working intensively with pupils and seeing the impact of focused teaching over time. You will need to be patient, adaptable, and skilled at breaking learning down into manageable steps, while maintaining high expectations.
The school welcomes applications from:
• Qualified teachers with QTS
• Teachers with experience in intervention, catch-up, or booster teaching
• Teachers with strong knowledge of phonics, early reading, or maths intervention
• Teachers looking to step away from full-class teaching while remaining impactful
The successful candidate will be confident analysing pupil data, identifying barriers to learning, and adjusting approaches accordingly. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will work closely with class teachers to ensure interventions align with classroom learning.
What the school offers:
• A clearly defined intervention role with purpose and structure
• Supportive leadership who value targeted teaching
• Time allocated for planning and reviewing interventions
• Well-resourced intervention spaces and materials
• Opportunities for professional development
• A positive staff culture with strong collaboration
The school is based in Gravesend, with good transport links and a strong sense of community. Staff wellbeing is taken seriously, and the leadership team works to ensure workloads are manageable and roles are clearly defined.
To apply, please forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, outlining your experience and suitability for the role.
Start Date: ASAP
This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
