About the role

The CatchUp Academy is seeking an experienced Qualified Teacher (QTS) and Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to support a Year 5 pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). This is a truly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference by helping a young person rebuild confidence in education through a personalised, relationship-led approach. The role begins with 5 hours per week, gradually increasing throughout the Autumn Term as the student's engagement develops, with the long-term aim of delivering up to 15 hours per week. The Role * Location: PO13 area * Start Date: September 2026 * Hours: Initially 5 hours per week, increasing gradually * Long-Term Aim: Up to 15 hours per week * Delivery: 2:1 provision (QTS Teacher and Learning Support Assistant) * Setting: Agreed alternative venue/home, depending on the student's needs About the Student The student is a bright, imaginative and creative young person who enjoys practical learning, making and designing, cooking, music, outdoor activities and hands-on experiences. They thrive when learning is meaningful, engaging and built around their interests. The student has experienced significant barriers to education and currently finds attending school extremely challenging. Building trust, confidence and emotional safety will be the priority before introducing more formal learning. The successful team will provide a nurturing, flexible programme that encourages curiosity, celebrates success and helps the student rediscover a positive relationship with learning. We're Looking For Someone Who * Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (teacher role) * Has experience supporting children with SEMH, EBSA and emotionally vulnerable learners. * Understands trauma-informed and relationship-based practice. * Is calm, patient and highly adaptable. * Can deliver an engaging, interest-led curriculum using practical and creative activities. * Can work collaboratively as part of a consistent two-person team. * Recognises that relationship building is the foundation for successful learning. What Will Success Look Like? Initially, sessions will focus on building trust, reducing anxiety and creating positive learning experiences. As confidence grows, the programme will gradually increase in both duration and academic content, supporting the student to re-engage with education and prepare successfully for their future educational placement. Every small success will be significant, making this an incredibly rewarding opportunity for professionals who value relationships, creativity and personalised learning. If you are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to education and believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, we would love to hear from you.
