About the role

School Caretaker Location: East Hertfordshire Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 per annum (depending on experience) Contract: Full-time, Permanent Academics are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and well-established school in Hertfordshire for an experienced and reliable School Caretaker . This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive individual with maintenance or facilities experience to join a supportive school environment where you'll play a key role in ensuring the site remains safe, secure and well maintained. The Role As the School Caretaker, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and security of the school premises. Working as part of a friendly team, you'll ensure the buildings and grounds provide a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors. Key Responsibilities • Opening and locking the school site each day. • Carrying out routine maintenance, repairs and general DIY tasks. • Maintaining the cleanliness, safety and presentation of the buildings and grounds. • Completing regular health and safety and fire safety checks. • Setting up rooms for meetings, assemblies and school events. • Liaising with contractors and overseeing works carried out on site. • Reporting and resolving maintenance issues where appropriate. • Assisting with deliveries and moving furniture or equipment. • Carrying out seasonal duties, including gritting pathways and maintaining external areas. • Ensuring the school remains secure and compliant with health and safety requirements. About You We're looking for someone who has: • Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities, maintenance or site management role. • Strong practical DIY and maintenance skills. • A proactive, flexible and hands-on approach. • Good organisational and communication skills. • The ability to work independently and prioritise workloads. • A commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment. Previous experience working within a school would be beneficial but is not essential.
