About the role

We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced School Counsellor to join our team from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people within a supportive school environment. The Role As our School Counsellor, you will provide confidential, one-to-one counselling and emotional support to pupils, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and promoting positive mental health. You will work collaboratively with school staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure pupils receive the support they need. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: • A recognised counselling qualification (minimum Level 4 Diploma or equivalent) or experience of this role in an educational setting • Membership or accreditation with a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP or NCPS), or be working towards accreditation • Experience working with children and young people, preferably within a school or educational setting • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • A sound understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and confidentiality • The ability to build trusting, professional relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues • A caring, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills We Offer: • A welcoming and supportive school community • Opportunities for professional development and ongoing training. • A collaborative and dedicated staff team • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR SPENCER CLARKE GROUP All applications are subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, professional reference checks, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) in line with our stringent safeguarding policy • Your CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible and all employment breaks must be explained • You must have legal right to work in the UK • You must be willing to attend a registration interview All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.Spencer Clarke Group work with a variety of schools covering a wide geographical area. We deal with teaching placements at Primary, Secondary, Special Education needs and college level as well as support staff positions also within these.
