Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Salary: £80 - £110 per day (Dependent on Experience)
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term
Start Date: September 2026

Supply Desk are seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Southampton. This rewarding opportunity involves supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.
Working alongside experienced teachers and pastoral staff, you will build strong relationships with pupils, providing consistent support both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
•
Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
•
Build trusting relationships that encourage engagement and confidence.
•
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
•
Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated learning.
•
Promote pupils' independence, resilience and social development.
•
Record observations and contribute to pupil progress reviews.
•
Work collaboratively with families and external professionals where appropriate.
•
Help create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment.
Requirements
•
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs.
•
Calm, patient and resilient approach.
•
Strong behaviour management skills.
•
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
•
Team player with a positive and proactive attitude.
