Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant Location: York, North Yorkshire Contract Type: Temporary, Supply, Full-Time Start Date: September 2026 Salary Scale: £92 – £115 per day (Depending on experience) Are you a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking for an opportunity to support young people with additional needs? GSL Education Hull branch are currently searching for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in York. We are looking for a caring and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting students with a wide range of special educational needs, enabling them to access learning, build essential life skills, and reach their full potential. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and specialist professionals to provide tailored support for students with diverse learning needs. You will play a key role in creating a positive, structured, and inclusive environment where students feel safe, valued, and motivated to succeed. Key Responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant: • Provide personalised one-to-one and small-group support for students with a range of special educational needs. • Assist teachers in delivering differentiated lessons and adapting resources to meet individual learning requirements. • Support students in developing communication, social, emotional, and independent living skills. • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies under the guidance of teaching staff. • Monitor student progress and share observations with teachers and the wider multidisciplinary team. • Promote positive behaviour while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment. SEN Teaching Assistant Minimum Requirements: • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN in an educational, care, or support setting is desirable. • A good understanding of a range of additional needs, such as Autism, ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, or Moderate Learning Difficulties. • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. • A patient, adaptable, and compassionate approach to supporting learners with diverse needs. • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
