SEND Teaching Assistant (Complex Needs) - Specialist SEND School - Peckham Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs Location: Peckham, South London Start Date: September 2026 Hours: Full-Time, Term Time Only Salary: £95-£120 per day (depending on experience) About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Peckham from September. This role involves supporting pupils with complex needs , including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), communication difficulties, sensory needs, and challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping students access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual targets in a safe and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND needs. • Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and personal development. • Assist with behaviour management strategies and sensory interventions. • Support pupils with personal care requirements where necessary. • Work alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver tailored learning programmes. • Promote a positive, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment. • Monitor and record pupil progress and achievements. Essential Requirements • Previous experience working with children or adults with complex needs, SEND, autism, learning disabilities, or challenging behaviour. • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures. • Ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in a challenging environment. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people. Mandatory Compliance Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service Enhanced Adult DBS on the Update Service Right to work in the UK Desirable • Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive behaviour management training. • Experience in a specialist SEND school, care setting, or supported living environment. • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods. • To apply, please send your CV.
