Job Title:  Chef Level 1 Actual Annual Salary:   £22,947 - £25,010  Based on hours and weeks worked Full Time Equivalent Salary: £26,798 - £29,208 (Grade B) Based on full time hours, all year-round contract Contract Type:  Permanent , Term Time Only plus Inset days Hours : Full Time, 37 hours per week Start: October 2026 – pending completion of pre-employment checks Do you enjoy working as a chef but find evenings and weekends unsociable? Would you like a role with daytime hours, Monday to Friday? We are looking for a qualified Chef to join our supportive and talented team at City Academy Bristol. Whether you're currently working as a School Chef, Catering Chef, Cook Supervisor, Sous Chef, Chef de Partie, Senior Commis Chef, Kitchen Supervisor, Care Home Chef, or are an experienced chef looking for a role with greater work-life balance, we'd love to hear from you. This is an excellent opportunity for chefs from restaurants, hotels, contract catering, care homes, schools, colleges, universities, corporate catering or event catering who are looking to bring their skills into a rewarding education setting. Working alongside our catering team, you'll contribute to menu planning, stock ordering, cost control and the delivery of high-quality meals for students, staff and visitors. The Chef will work alongside members of the catering team providing a high quality of catering provision to students, staff and visitors to the academy. They will assist in a smooth operation on a daily basis including ordering, menu planning and costings. The postholder will be expected to support in developing the commercial business, coming up with new ideas and initiatives. At all times, the post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with relevant colleagues to fulfil the requirements of the role and contribute positively to the effective running of the catering function within the academy. You will have: An understanding of the working conditions within a busy kitchen environment. A City & Guilds 706/1 qualification or equivalent or working towards. An NVQ Level 1 and 2 Hospitality and Catering qualifications, or equivalent, or working towards. Experience of ordering stock. Experience of menu planning and preparing meals for commercial activity. The ability to safely operate a range of kitchen related machines and equipment. The ability to understand and adhere to legislation such as food hygiene and COSHH regulations. Competency in food preparation and cooking tasks. Proficiency at cleaning and maintaining a hygienic working environment. The ability to work without supervision and within a team. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. To be successful in the post, we are looking for a chef to work alongside the Head Chef and catering team providing a high quality of catering provision to students/staff and visitors to the City Academy. You will assist in a smooth operation on a daily basis including ordering, menu planning and costings. Developing the commercial business, coming up with new ideas and initiatives.
