Learning Support Assistant (Sensory Support) – Supply Role Location: Northfield School, Billingham Hours: Full Time Duration: Expected to run for the full academic year Contract: Supply We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated and proactive Learning Support Assistant with experience supporting pupils with visual impairments and sensory needs to join Northfield School on a full-time supply basis for the upcoming academic year. This rewarding role involves providing one-to-one support for a pupil who is blind and uses a mobility cane. You will play a vital role in helping the student access all aspects of school life safely, confidently and independently. Key Responsibilities: • Providing classroom support to enable full access to learning.
• Supporting the pupil with safe movement around the school environment.
• Assisting during lunchtimes, including explaining meal options and supporting independence.
• Describing visual information, learning resources and classroom activities.
• Working closely with teaching staff and the school's SEND team to ensure the pupil's individual needs are met.
• Promoting confidence, independence and inclusion throughout the school day.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: • Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant.
• Experience supporting pupils with visual impairments, sensory needs or other SEND requirements.
• A patient, empathetic and adaptable approach.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
