Assistant Head of Year (Maternity Cover) Salary: Grade D £28,696 - £31,572 FTE 37 hrs per week, 39 weeks per year, Actual Salary £24,612 - £27,079 per annum Temporary maternity cover, expected to end July 2027 (dependent on the return of the current postholder) Start Date: 01 October 2026 We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and forward-thinking Assistant Head of Year to join our dynamic Pastoral Team. In this pivotal role, you will help ensure that every pupil feels supported, valued and empowered to achieve their full potential. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will play a key part in promoting pupils’ wellbeing, raising aspirations and strengthening self-belief. You will work closely with external agencies, manage behaviour in line with our high expectations, hold and record meetings, analyse trends and work proactively with a wide range of stakeholders. A significant element of the role will focus on improving attendance and removing barriers to learning. We are looking for someone who can thrive both as part of a dedicated pastoral and tutor team and when working independently. Key Requirements A strong commitment to maintaining high standards and supporting educational excellence. Excellent organisational, planning and prioritising skills. Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure while meeting deadlines. Confidence in analysing data, identifying patterns and taking appropriate action. Strong leadership in behaviour management and upholding school expectations. A positive attitude and a good sense of humour. Ability to build effective, professional relationships with pupils, parents,carers, staff and external partners. A good standard of literacy. Clear, confident and professional communication skills.
