What we measure
Salary information published by employers, trusts and agencies in live, publicly visible vacancy adverts on SchoolJobs.uk, plus official published pay scales where we hold them.
What we do not measure
We do not measure actual pay received, offers made, individual contracts, candidate salary expectations, or any private commercial rate.
Our rules
Observation basis
Statistics are derived from live public vacancies at the time of the last refresh. They are a snapshot of advertised pay, not a historical earnings series.
Pay units are never converted
Annual, daily, hourly, weekly and monthly pay are measured and reported separately. We never convert one unit into another to build a statistic.
Term-time and pro-rata pay
Term-time-only and pro-rata adverts are recorded on their stated basis. Full-time-equivalent and actual pay are never compared as if identical.
Regional and national differences
Regional and national differences are shown only where genuine evidence or an official pay scale supports them. No multipliers or ratios are applied to invent regional figures.
No percentiles
We do not publish salary percentiles, because advertised-pay samples are not large or representative enough to support them.
When we do not know
Where evidence does not meet the published thresholds we show 'Insufficient verified salary data' rather than an estimate.
Evidence thresholds
A figure is only published once it clears these thresholds for a single role, a single pay unit and a single nation.
| Evidence state | Live vacancies | Distinct employers | How it is shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strong evidence | 25+ | 8+ | Published as a headline advertised range |
| Limited evidence | 8+ | 3+ | Published with an explicit limited-evidence caveat |
| Insufficient | Below the limited threshold | Below the limited threshold | No figure — we show live vacancies instead |
The only claims we make
- observed advertised salary
- Based on salary information published in live vacancy adverts on SchoolJobs.uk.
- official pay scale
- Taken from an official published pay scale.
- calculated equivalent with visible assumptions
- A calculated equivalent shown with its assumptions stated on the page.
- estimate with explicit methodology
- An estimate produced by a stated methodology, clearly labelled as an estimate.
- insufficient data
- We do not yet hold enough verified salary evidence to publish a figure here.
Why there is no salary calculator
A personalised salary calculator would require earnings data we do not hold. Advertised-pay evidence cannot support an individual estimate.
