Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable School Caretaker to maintain the safety, cleanliness, and overall upkeep of our small village school. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the school environment is welcoming, secure, and well-maintained for staff and students alike. This position offers an opportunity to contribute positively to the school community by providing a clean and safe environment conducive to learning and development. Duties Conduct regular inspections of the school premises to identify maintenance or safety issues Carry out general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and waste disposal to uphold high standards of hygiene Maintain and repair fixtures such as lights, doors, windows, and furniture as required Ensure all health and safety protocols are adhered to, including checking fire alarms and emergency exits are accessible Manage security systems and oversee access control to ensure the safety of staff and pupils Assist with setting up classrooms and event spaces for school activities or meetings Report any damages or hazards promptly to the appropriate authorities for resolution Oversee external grounds maintenance, including gardening or snow clearance when necessary Liaise with school staff regarding maintenance schedules and urgent repairs Requirements Proven experience in building maintenance, cleaning, or caretaking roles preferred but not essential; training will be provided where necessary Strong organisational skills with an eye for detail Ability to undertake physical tasks including lifting, moving equipment, and working at heights if required Good understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to school environments Reliable with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently or as part of a team Flexibility to respond promptly to urgent repairs or emergencies outside normal working hours if needed Basic knowledge of security systems and procedures is advantageous Must demonstrate the ability to speak fluent English at a level appropriate to be able to carry out the duties of the post. This role is essential in creating a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all members of the school community.
