About the role

Orton Wistow Primary School Catering Assistant Salary: Grade 3 , Point 3 £8,706 (Actual Annual Salary) Hours: 15 Hours 38 Weeks Are you passionate about healthy eating and providing a great service to children? Orton Wistow Primary School is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to join our friendly kitchen team. In this role, you will provide effective support to the Catering Manager by helping to prepare and serve high-quality meals to our pupils and staff. You will also play a key part in interacting with students to encourage healthy eating habits and maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment. The Role Help prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals as directed by the Catering Manager. Maintain rigorous standards of food hygiene, adhering strictly to food safety and health and safety regulations. Engage positively with pupils to promote healthy eating choices. Ensure food supplies are stored safely and correctly. Handle kitchen cleaning duties, including washing equipment and maintaining tidy food preparation and dining areas. Support school policies, including safeguarding, data security (GDPR), and health and safety guidelines. The Ideal Candidate A good educational background with GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Math. A Level 2 Food Award in Food Safety and Hygiene (or a willingness to undertake relevant training) is highly desirable Previous experience working in a kitchen, catering environment, or public setting is a plus. Basic food preparation skills, the ability to operate industrial kitchen equipment, and the capability to work efficiently to strict deadlines. A positive, enthusiastic, and professional approach with high standards of personal presentation, punctuality, and organization. A strong commitment to the welfare, safeguarding, and protection of children and young people.
