Job description
St Simon and St Jude Church of England Primary School is excited to be expanding its provision for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities through the development of The Harbour, our new Enhanced Resource Provision for pupils with Communication and Interaction Needs.
We are seeking a caring, patient, enthusiastic, and flexible Learning Support Assistant & Cover Supervisor to join our dedicated team. This is a unique and rewarding dual role, combining specialist SEND support within The Harbour with the opportunity to supervise and support whole-class learning.
This position offers the chance to make a real difference to children’s lives by supporting their academic, social, emotional, and personal development while also playing a key role in ensuring continuity of learning during staff absence.
The Role
Working under the guidance of the Lead Practitioner and teaching staff, you will support pupils with a range of SEND needs, primarily those with communication and interaction difficulties. You will work closely with individual pupils and small groups to deliver personalised learning, support EHCP targets, and help children access a broad and engaging curriculum from their individual starting points.
As part of your Learning Support Assistant responsibilities, you will help create a nurturing, structured, and supportive environment where children feel safe, valued, and able to thrive. You will support pupils throughout the school day to develop communication and social skills, achieve individual targets, build confidence, and gain increasing independence.
Alongside this, you will undertake Cover Supervisor duties when required. In the absence of a teacher, you will be responsible for supervising classes, ensuring pupils remain engaged in learning activities that have been planned and set by teaching staff. You will provide clear guidance and support, encourage positive behaviour, and maintain a safe and productive learning environment. You will liaise closely with teachers and colleagues regarding lesson content, provide feedback on pupil engagement and progress, and respond effectively to any issues that may arise during lessons.
The role will also involve supporting the organisation of cover arrangements, assisting with curriculum resources and displays, undertaking administrative tasks, invigilating examinations where required, and contributing to the wider life and continuous improvement of the school.
The Harbour
The Harbour has been created to provide specialist support for pupils whose communication and interaction needs require a more tailored learning environment. Our vision is to ensure every child feels understood, valued, and empowered to achieve their potential, while remaining a valued member of our wider school community.
As part of The Harbour team, you will contribute to creating a nurturing, structured, and supportive learning environment where children feel safe, build positive relationships, and develop the confidence to succeed. You will support pupils throughout the school day, helping them access learning, develop communication and social skills, achieve their individual targets, and build increasing independence. The role also includes supporting pupils' emotional wellbeing, working collaboratively with teaching staff and families, preparing learning resources, and contributing to an inclusive environment where every child can flourish.
Why Join Us?
At St Simon and St Jude CE Primary School, we pride ourselves on our warm, family-orientated atmosphere and our commitment to ensuring every child flourishes. This is a unique opportunity to join an exciting new provision at a formative stage while also playing a wider role across the school community.
As part of the Rise Multi Academy Trust, you will join a supportive and ambitious organisation that values professional development, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will work alongside dedicated colleagues who share a commitment to providing the very best outcomes for children and young people.
If you are passionate about inclusion, enjoy supporting children to achieve their potential, and are looking for a varied and rewarding role, we would be delighted to hear from you and welcome you to our team.
