About the role

Are you passionate about working with children and want to begin a rewarding career in early years education, while gaining valuable hands-on experience? Pixie pre-school located at Shillington Lower School, are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, and motivated individual to join their friendly and supportive team. Pixie pre-school is located in the village of Shillington, and is part of Shillington Lower School. The pre-school provides provision from 8.45-3.30pm Monday-Friday in a welcoming and child-focused environment. To be considered for this role you need GCSE grades 4 or above in Maths and English. For the right candidate, lower grades will be considered but will require you to undertake functional skills as part of your college course. As a Level 3 Apprentice Early years Practitioner, you will begin by spending time based solely in the Pixie pre-school to get to know the staff, children, parents, and daily routines. You will work closely with qualified team members to develop your understanding of how the pre-school operates and how to support the children’s individual needs.

As you settle into the role, you will take on more responsibilities, including working, when required in our EYFS classroom. Roles include helping with the day to day running of the room, preparing snacks, supporting lunchtime routines, and setting up engaging, age-appropriate activities for children across all age groups. You will start to lead activities such as story time, phonics and songs. You will also take part in maintaining a clean and safe environment, including tidying up after activities, sweeping, hoovering, and general cleaning duties shared amongst the team.

Candidates who can demonstrate confidence in leading play activities and engaging positively with young children and colleagues will be well suited to this role.

You will attend Bedford College as part of your apprenticeship training, with this being a paid day release. Pixie pre-school and Shillington Lower school is committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of all pupils who attend. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and will be required to undertake and successfully complete safeguarding, medical as part of this role.
