About the role

Some jobs keep you at a desk. This one keeps you moving, and you can see the difference you make. At Riddlesdown, you would help look after a large, outstanding secondary school in Croydon (Ofsted, March 2023). You would work with the Facilities Manager and the team to keep our buildings and grounds in great condition: safe, clean, well maintained and ready for the day. When something needs fixing, you fix it. You would: Carry out maintenance and caretaking jobs across the buildings and grounds Spot problems early and put them right before they grow Open and lock up, and keep the site secure Work with contractors and suppliers Carry out safety checks and risk assessments A well-kept site tells children and staff that this is a school that cares. You would help make that true every day. About you We are hiring for potential as much as experience. You may already have worked in building maintenance, or you may be ready to take your practical skills into a new setting. Either is fine.

What matters most is who you are:

Practical — you like working with your hands and solving problems Hard-working — you take pride in doing a job properly, and you finish what you start Up for a challenge — you stay calm when things go wrong and enjoy putting them right Keen to develop — you want to learn new skills and grow in the role A team player — you are reliable, flexible and good with people You also care about keeping children safe. You do not need to match every point in the person specification, so if you are unsure, apply anyway.
