Job description

At Marriotts our vision is for every single student to exceed their potential and to leave us with the qualifications, skills and attitudes that they need to move on to the next stage of their lives. Judged as Met Expected Standards in all areas by Ofsted in January 2026. Marriotts is committed to the school’s continuous improvement and encouragement for all pupils to ‘aim high, work hard and be kind’. We are currently looking to appoint a Head of English (Curriculum and Teaching and Learning). This is a Joint Head of Faculty position and is a full-time permanent appointment from January 2027. The successful candidate will be joining our expanding English Faculty at an exciting time as we continue to grow and develop to support the students at Marriotts School. This is a key middle leadership role with responsibility for driving and delivering high-quality English provision across the school. The successful candidate will be a qualified, enthusiastic and committed practitioner who is able to provide high quality teaching and learning for our students, and who is willing to embrace additional extra-curricular activities. You will be passionate about English and the power of education to transform the lives of young people. We welcome applications from experienced leaders who are looking for a new challenge or from candidates with experience of leadership within a secondary school, who are looking to take the next step in their career. Marriotts School is committed to safeguarding and the welfare of all its students and staff. The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification in order to be offered the post and will be subject to satisfactory recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, medical check and satisfactory references. Marriotts School operates a strict Equal Opportunities Policy, and we welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion. Please direct any queries, or send a completed Application Form together with a cover letter/personal statement outlining how you meet the Person Specification for this role, to: Mrs J Peary, Resources and Operations: j.peary@marriotts.herts.sch.uk
