About the role

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Intervention Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and vibrant school community. This rewarding role will involve working closely with pupils who require additional academic support, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will deliver targeted interventions across a range of subjects, supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to accelerate progress and boost confidence. Location: Nelson Salary: £14.25 - £15.25 per hour Contract Type: Long-term Maternity cover Hours: Full-time 8.30am – 3.30pm Start Date: 1st September 2026 Job Title: Intervention Teaching Assistant The Role As an Intervention Teaching Assistant, you will: • Deliver targeted intervention programmes in literacy, numeracy, and other curriculum areas. • Work with individuals and small groups identified as requiring additional support. • Support pupils in closing learning gaps and achieving age-related expectations. • Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress. • Liaise with class teachers and the SENCO to ensure interventions are effective and tailored to individual needs. • Adapt resources and learning activities to meet the needs of all learners. • Encourage pupil engagement, resilience, and independence. • Build positive relationships with pupils to support both academic progress and wellbeing. About You The successful candidate will: • Have previous experience working with children in a school or educational setting. • Demonstrate a passion for helping pupils achieve their potential. • Possess strong literacy and numeracy skills. • Have experience delivering interventions or targeted support programmes (desirable). • Be able to motivate and engage pupils of varying abilities. • Have excellent communication and organisational skills. • Be patient, proactive, and adaptable in their approach. • Work effectively as part of a team while using their own initiative. Experience supporting pupils with SEND, English as an Additional Language (EAL), or those working below age-related expectations would be advantageous.
