Longdean School Key Stage 3 Intervention Tutor - Literacy and Numeracy Salary: £26745 (H6 + fringe, pro rata) 37 hours per week - Permanent Start date: January 2027 Longdean are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to lead targeted catch-up intervention for Key Stage 3 students who are currently working below age-related expectations in Maths and English. About the Role: Deliver short-term, high-impact intervention strategies designed to close gaps in Maths and English for KS3 students identified as behind their peers Work from your own fully resourced intervention classroom, with a dedicated budget to ensure resources remain up to date and responsive to students’ needs Benefit from close, ongoing support and guidance from the Lead of KS3 Maths and the Lead of KS3 English, who will help shape and quality-assure your intervention programmes Work in close partnership with the SEND team to ensure a joined-up approach — so that students with additional needs do not fall between the gaps of "SEND support" and "catch-up" provision Track student progress and adjust intervention groupings and strategies based on evidence of impact Be fully integrated into the life of the school, working as part of a wider team of teachers, TAs, and pastoral staff rather than in isolation What we offer: A personalised package of support and training, including HLTA-specific CPD and subject-focused guidance from experienced curriculum leads Your own fully resourced intervention classroom, located within the Maths and English departments, providing an ideal base for high-quality small-group and 1:1 teaching A collaborative, well-supported working environment with regular contact with subject leads and the SEND team The opportunity to shape and develop the school’s KS3 catch-up provision, with the autonomy to develop the role alongside KS3 Leads and respond to current research and evidence to ensure the greatest possible impact on learning A genuinely rewarding role with visible, short-term impact on student outcomes What we’re looking for: HLTA status (or working towards, with willingness to complete accreditation) Experience supporting students who are behind age-related expectations in Maths and/or English at KS3 A strong understanding of, or willingness to learn, evidence-based catch-up and intervention strategies Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments (Maths, English, SEND, pastoral) A genuine passion for ensuring every student — including those with additional needs — gets the support they need to succeed Resilience, flexibility, and a solutions-focused approach to working with students who may have gaps in confidence as well as attainment Key Relationships: Lead of KS3 Maths Curriculum guidance, intervention content, identification of students; progress monitoring Lead of KS3 English Curriculum guidance, intervention content, identification of students; progress monitoring SEND Team Joint planning to ensure no student falls between SEND and catch-up provision Class/Subject Teachers Referrals, shared tracking of student progress Longdean School is proud to work within Scholars’ Education Trust.
