Learning Mentor

Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.

Good literacy and numeracy skills, equivalent to Level 2 in English and Maths.

Experience of working effectively with children and young people, ideally within a primary school or educational setting.

Experience of identifying and supporting children who face barriers to learning, including difficulties relating to behaviour, motivation, attendance, wellbeing or engagement.

Ability to build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and provide effective one-to-one and small-group support.

Experience of delivering or supporting targeted interventions, setting appropriate targets and monitoring children’s progress.

A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection, with the ability to recognise concerns, maintain professional boundaries and follow school procedures.

Ability to work positively with parents and carers, building strong relationships and involving families in supporting their child.

Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, senior leaders and external agencies to ensure children receive appropriate support.

An understanding of SEND, inclusion and the importance of removing barriers so that all pupils can participate successfully in school life.

Good communication, organisation and record-keeping skills, including the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

A calm, patient and nurturing approach, alongside the ability to maintain high expectations for children’s behaviour, engagement and achievement.

A commitment to equality, inclusion and safeguarding, and a willingness to undertake relevant training and continuing professional development.
