Salary: Scale H, £34,434 - £36,363 FTE
Temporary – maternity cover until July 2027
Full Time
37 - 40 hours per week

Required from November 2026 or sooner with flexibility
We are seeking a School Business Manager to join our friendly and supportive team on a temporary basis whilst our current School Business Manager takes maternity leave.
From the current School Business Manager:
Queen’s Hill is a vibrant, diverse and popular school on the outskirts of Norwich. With over 600 pupils and around 90 staff, no two days are ever the same.
As School Business Manager, you play a key role in ensuring the school runs smoothly behind the scenes so that staff can focus on teaching, and pupils on learning. You will work closely and provide support to the Headteacher, Assistant Headteachers and Governors, whilst also managing the day-to-day operational needs of our school.
One moment you may be monitoring budgets, processing orders, and the next you could be supporting a recruitment process, processing HR paperwork, responding to a health and safety concern or helping parents and staff with queries. Flexibility, organisation and a sense of humour are essential.
You will have the opportunity to make a difference across the whole school. Whether it’s ensuring the school has the resources it needs, supporting colleagues, improving systems and processes, or helping to create a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, every day brings something different and rewarding.
We are a school with a strong team ethos. Staff support one another, celebrate successes together and are committed to providing the very best outcomes for our children. If you enjoy building positive relationships, solving problems, managing competing priorities and being at the heart of a busy school community, this could be the role for you.
What the role includes:
Leading on all financial matters, including day to day ordering and processing invoices
Monitoring and maintaining a balanced, realistic and sustainable budget and planning accordingly
Liaising with the local authority regarding HR matters, including recruitment contracts, payroll queries and staffing changes
Providing operational and logistical support to the Headteacher and wider leadership team across all aspects of school life
Acting as a key point of contact for parents, staff, pupils, visitors and contractors
Attending and contributing to Finance and Premises Committee meetings, preparing information and supporting Governors
Managing the school's Health and Safety compliance, including risk assessments, statutory checks and liaising with contractors
Overseeing premises-related matters and supporting the effective management and maintenance of the school site.
Managing and reviewing the school's subscriptions, contracts and service level agreements to ensure compliance and value for money
Supporting the effective running of the school office and assisting with administrative duties as required
Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of a large and busy primary school
What we’re looking for:
Experience of financial management, ideally in a local authority maintained school
Confidence in working independently whilst also being part of a wider team
Good ICT skills, including Microsoft Office, Bromcom and Google Drive
Take a look at our website and social media channels to gain an insight into our school. Please also get in touch if you would like to arrange a school tour.
