About the role

Every young person deserves a fresh start. Could you be the person who helps make that happen? The Sunbeck Centre is the Pupil Referral Service for Hambleton and Richmondshire in North Yorkshire. We are looking for a committed, resilient and compassionate SEMH Teacher who believes in the potential of every young person and understands that the right relationships, high expectations and consistent support can change lives. Sunbeck supports young people who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. Our pupils often arrive with disrupted education, gaps in learning and experiences that have affected their confidence, engagement and trust in education. They need teachers who can look beyond the behaviour, understand the needs behind it and help them find a positive way forward. This is an opportunity to join a team that combines a relational approach with clear boundaries, ambitious expectations and a determination to help every pupil succeed.

The Role

You will teach and support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them re-engage with education, develop positive learning habits and make meaningful academic and personal progress. You will create a calm, structured and purposeful learning environment where pupils feel safe, understood and appropriately challenged. You will recognise that progress is not always straightforward, but will remain consistent in your approach, celebrate success and never lose sight of what each young person can achieve. We would particularly welcome applications from teachers who can deliver Mathematics across Key Stages 3 and 4 , helping pupils rebuild their confidence, close gaps in their learning and work towards meaningful qualifications. Teachers will also deliver lessons from our World Ready Programme. Working closely with colleagues, families and partner schools, you will play an important role in helping pupils develop the skills, confidence and readiness they need for their next steps.

We are looking for someone who:

Builds positive, trusting relationships with young people who may have struggled to engage with education.

Understands SEMH needs and can respond calmly, consistently and appropriately when pupils find learning difficult.

Combines empathy and patience with clear boundaries and high expectations.

Can adapt teaching to meet a wide range of abilities, needs and starting points.

Is passionate about helping pupils overcome barriers, rebuild confidence and achieve academically.

Can contribute to a consistent team approach to behaviour, regulation, safeguarding and pupil progress.

Is reflective, resilient and willing to work collaboratively to find solutions for individual pupils.

Understands the importance of preparing young people for successful reintegration into mainstream education, further education or their next stage of learning.

Experience in a Pupil Referral Unit, alternative provision or a specialist SEMH setting would be valuable. However, we are interested in teachers who bring the right values, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to young people. Why Sunbeck? Our mission is to create the conditions for every young person to belong, thrive, learn and succeed. We believe that pupils should be treated with dignity, given opportunities to start again and supported to achieve more than they might believe possible. We know that strong relationships and high standards are not competing priorities. They are essential to one another. You will join a team that is developing its provision, strengthening its curriculum and building an environment where pupils can feel a genuine sense of belonging. You will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, shape practice and make a tangible difference to the lives of young people who need the right people around them. This is challenging work, but it is also incredibly rewarding. Success might begin with a pupil entering the classroom, trusting an adult or completing a piece of work they once thought impossible. Over time, those small steps can lead to qualifications, renewed ambition and a more positive future. If you are a teacher who sees potential where others may see barriers, who can combine compassion with consistency and who wants to make a genuine difference, we would love to hear from you. ob Details Hours of Work: Full Time, 1.0 FTE Position Type: Permanent Travel Required: No Salary: M1-M6: The salary is dependent on current qualifications and experience,
