About the role
Essential
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Successful teaching experience
Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements
Experience of working with pupils with a range
of SEND
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies
Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills
Mandatory SENCO Qualification
Hold, or be willing to complete, the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs, in line with statutory
requirements
Transitional arrangements apply:
SENCOs who began the NASENCO before 1 September 2024 must complete it by 1 September 2027
SENCOs who already hold the NASENCO are not required to complete the NPQ for SENCOs
Desirable
Experience of strategic SEND leadership
Experience of writing and reviewing EHCP
documentation
Experience of working across more than one
school or within a Trust context
Knowledge of evidence-informed SEND practice
