About the role

SEND Teaching Assistant | Fixed-Term Position | Start Date: As Soon As Possible At St Joseph’s Catholic Voluntary Academy, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish, feel valued and achieve their very best. We are looking for a kind, enthusiastic and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join our welcoming primary school in Matlock on a fixed-term basis. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), helping them develop confidence, independence and a love of learning. Whether it's helping a child overcome a challenge, encouraging them to try something new or celebrating a small but significant achievement, you'll play an important part in making every school day count. What will you be doing? Working closely with our teaching team, you'll provide personalised support to help pupils access the curriculum, participate fully in school life and reach their potential.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils with SEND, both individually and in small groups, to engage confidently in their learning.

Working alongside teachers to support pupils' progress, attainment and personal development.

Encouraging independence, self-esteem and positive social interaction.

Adapting learning activities and support to meet individual needs.

Helping to create a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child feels supported and valued.

Recognising and celebrating pupils' progress, however big or small.

What are we looking for? We're looking for someone who brings patience, positivity and a genuine commitment to helping children succeed.

You'll be someone who:

Has a caring and supportive approach to working with children with additional needs.

Can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.

Is adaptable, approachable and able to respond to the different needs of individual pupils.

Works well as part of a team and is willing to learn and develop.

Understands the importance of inclusion and believes every child should have the opportunity to succeed.

Above all, we're looking for someone who understands that making a difference isn't always about the big moments - sometimes it's the encouragement, reassurance and patience we offer every day that matter most. Why join St Joseph's? A comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme , offering confidential support and guidance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme , with generous employer contributions.

You'll be joining a Trust where our shared values, commitment to inclusion and belief in the potential of every child are at the heart of what we do. Could this be your next opportunity?
