About the role

A department that works collaboratively for your wellbeing and to achieve the best outcomes for our students "Our shared resources lead to lessons that are well structured and students who are attentive and know that they can succeed. You will have the time you need to think about your teaching and the best way to support the students in your class. The department team are a warm friendly group who will always support you and make the working day an enjoyable experience.” Why This Role Matters (About the Role) As a Science Teacher covering this maternity leave, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-informed lessons across the key stages. Students should understand that Scientific understanding is always evolving through curiosity, never complete, and that they as individuals can and will further add to our knowledge of the world and universe. We want students to be able to analyse information in the real world to help them determine if their taxes are fair, the restrictions placed on their freedom of choice are necessary and to avoid being taken advantage of by persons or groups who misuse science for gain. We also want students to understand the wonder in Science and that it has the potential to make the world a better place for all.

What You’ll Bring (Skills & Experience) Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a strong subject knowledge in secondary Science.

An ability to create an engaging learning environment where students undertake practical experiments and can understand the essential concepts of science.

High expectations for student progress, maintaining calm and clear boundaries that support learning.

A collaborative approach to planning and departmental work.

Alignment with our school values and a commitment to helping every student succeed.

The “Why Us” Difference (The Professional Promise) Professional Agency: We trust our teachers to teach. You will have the professional autonomy to adapt lessons and practicals to suit the needs of your classes.

Workload-Sensitive Approach: We value your time outside the classroom. Our departmental planning is collaborative, and our reporting systems focus strictly on high-impact feedback rather than performative paperwork.

High-Quality CPLD: Access to evidence-informed CPLD and collaborative subject networks across the Trust to keep your teaching sharp.

The RLT Connection (Our Shared Foundations) "Education has the power to change lives... we are better, faster, stronger together." Chipping Norton School is proud to be part of the River Learning Trust. Joining us connects you to a stable, mission-driven trust that prioritises the professional security and development of its colleagues. Professional Security: Full recognition of continuous public sector service (where there is no break in service) and access to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS).

Shared Growth: Access to Trust-wide CPLD resources and collaborative networks with Science departments across 31+ schools.

The Whole Person: Access to a comprehensive 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) providing personal, financial, and wellbeing support for you and your immediate family.

River Learning Trust and Chipping Norton School are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and preventing extremism. We are an exempt employer under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. We actively value the "different contributions" you can make. We want you to be at your best during the application process; if you require any reasonable adjustments, please let us know. Note: We do not accept CVs; please apply via My New Term. We reserve the right to interview and appoint exceptional candidates early. The Three Pathways Discover Your Impact: Full Job Description on MyNewTerm
