Teaching Assistant Fixed Term 7th September 2026 until 31st August 2027 30 hours per week / 38 weeks (Term time only 8.30 - 3.15 Monday - Friday less morning break & lunch break) Hourly rate £13.47 - £13.69 (FTE £25,989 - £26,403) pay award pending. Southmead Primary School is a friendly popular school with a caring family ethos. Our pupils are at the centre of everything we do. The Headteacher and Governors are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced teaching assistant to support pupils with their learning in our Key Stage 2 classes. We are looking for a motivated team player ideally with experience of working with children with a range of needs both individually and in small groups. A positive and encouraging attitude is essential, as is kindness, patience and an ability to use your initiative. The role will include some small group interventions and may include some class cover for suitably qualified candidates. We are looking for applicants who are dedicated to making a difference to children’s lives and to ensure every child has the opportunities they deserve. You will be working alongside an experienced and supportive team and there will be ongoing opportunities for training. We are looking for someone with the following essential qualities: A Teaching and Learning Assistant Level 2 qualification or equivalent. Although we would welcome HLTA’s or teachers who want to remain / stay in education. Experience of working with children and/or children with additional needs (this can include your own children or in another setting) Experience of delivering 1:1 and/or small group interventions Experience of setting clear and consistent boundaries A positive and encouraging attitude Kindness and patience A willingness to learn and undertake CPD Ability to work within a team A willingness to enhance the school curriculum GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent, in English and Maths In return we can offer A friendly and supportive school team Term Time only working Local Government Pension This role requires the ability to fulfill all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
