Teaching Assistant

Sir James Smith’s is looking to appoint a new colleague to work across the SEND department. The successful applicant will demonstrate a positive and adaptable approach to ensuring all students achieve excellent outcomes. You will be expected to work alongside teaching colleagues to support students in the classroom, work alongside SEND colleagues to deliver individual mentoring to students with SEND and work with pastoral colleagues supporting some of the schools most vulnerable students. The successful applicant will be working with a variety of young people who need additional support, both academically and pastorally, to achieve the very best outcomes from their education and have the opportunity to successfully move on to an exciting Post 16 area of education. Experience of working with young people would be beneficial but not essential. Most important is a positive approach to young people, patience, empathy and a belief that all young people can achieve and succeed. The students of Sir James Smith’s have huge opportunities ahead of them. They have high expectations for their futures and understand the need for an outstanding education. This appointment will specifically support those students who require additional support to be happy in school and make interesting choices for their futures. A collaborative approach and the ability to work with colleagues positively is essential, alongside high levels of professionalism and expectations for oneself and our students. The main duties of the role will be: Deliver Mentoring to individual SEND students. Support teachers’ delivery of the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 curriculum.

The core skills for the role will include:

Confidence to work with a range of students from those with SEND on an individual basis through to group work with older students to promote engagement and positive behaviours. Collaboration and co-operation with students, colleagues, and school leaders. Personal drive to develop strategies and techniques to support individual students and groups of students. Levels of professionalism and an outlook that match the school’s aspiration and allows all students to leave with excellent outcomes.
