About the role

Batley Multi Academy Trust’s sole purpose is to provide a great education for Primary and Secondary learners throughout a local family of schools. The Trust is passionately committed to the communities of Batley, Birstall, Dewsbury and our surrounding areas, serving our local learners and their families in order to secure excellent educational outcomes, partnered with high aspirations. Batley Multi Academy Trust currently comprises Batley Girls’ High School; Batley Grammar School; Field Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School; Healey Junior, Infant and Nursery School; Hyrstmount Junior School; Manorfield Infant and Nursery School; Purlwell Infant and Nursery School and Upper Batley High School. The Trust also operates two community centres called The Fields and the Yorkshire Rose Teaching Partnership for adult education and the Smart Academy. We provide high quality education for all our young people regardless of their background or starting point. Collaboration across our Trust family of schools enables us to share expertise, knowledge and best practice to ensure academic and pastoral excellence, with all schools embracing the same overall ethos and values, whilst maintaining their own unique characters. At Batley Grammar School we aim to blend our traditional ethos and culture with modern approaches to teaching and learning. Our school was established over 400 years ago and has a rich, diverse and successful history delivering high quality education for all. Visitors to Batley Grammar School frequently comment on our school's friendly atmosphere, our calm and purposeful learning environment and how we model our values of respect, community and resilience in every area of our work. At Batley Grammar School, we value colleagues who take pride in their work and contribute to the school’s vibrant life, including its rich extra-curricular programme. We are seeking to appoint a highly experienced, strategic Assistant Headteacher and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCO) to lead inclusive provision across our all-through school (Reception to Year 11). In this pivotal leadership role, you will lead and model best practice, evaluate provision, and shape the strategic direction of our SEND strategy. Working closely with the Headteacher, Senior Leadership Team, and Trust SEND Lead, you will foster a culture of belonging, ensure seamless continuity of support across both primary and secondary phases, enabling every learner to make exceptional progress from their starting points. We are looking for an inspirational teacher and leader holding QTS alongside the NASENCO/NPQ for SENDCOs qualification, or an experienced SENDCO actively working towards it. The successful candidate will champion inclusive practice at the highest level, embedding equity, accessibility, and high aspirations across all aspects of school life to systematically remove barriers to learning. You will combine a deeply child-centred ethos with articulate communication, strong advocacy, and effective networking and relationship-building skills. Crucially, you will demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising educational attainment and life chances for learners with SEND, leveraging the collaborative strengths of our Multi Academy Trust to drive trust-wide inclusion, continuous improvement, and highly effective partnership with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies and families. This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive forward-thinking Trust, who in return for your commitment and hard work, will support you to achieve your own career goals and aspirations. Please contact the People and Talent team at: recruitment@batleymat.co.uk, if you have any questions or to arrange a visit. Batley Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all young people and expects all colleagues and volunteers to share this commitment. The post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check for Regulated Activity and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check will be completed. Batley Multi Academy Trust is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community to join our highly inclusive team.
