Job description

Houghton Conquest Primary School is a warm and welcoming school at the heart of a historic village. We pride ourselves on creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to be the best version of themselves. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated teacher to join our passionate team. This is an incredibly exciting time for Houghton Conquest. We are currently on a transformative journey as we transition from a Lower School to a Primary School from September 2026. This evolution represents a new chapter for our pupils and our community. While this initial role is maternity cover our ongoing growth means we will also be recruiting for September 2027, offering a possibility for this contract to be extended for the right candidate. What we are looking for: Someone who can deliver high-quality, engaging lessons that spark curiosity. Someone who is committed practitioner with high expectations of our children and of themselves. Someone who is passionate about teaching and learning and has the ability and dedication to making a difference to children’s learning. Someone who embodies our core values and fosters a positive, respectful classroom culture. Someone who thrives in a collaborative, supportive environment and is a team player. Someone who is professionally committed to their own development and the success of every pupil. Someone who is able to work on their own initiative and manage and organise their time effectively. Someone who can confidently communicate with parents, carers and class teachers to keep them informed of a child's/pupil's progress. Why join us? To join a close-knit staff team where everyone’s voice is heard. All staff work together as a team and value each other’s strengths. To be within a collaborative working environment with pupil and staff well-being as a priority. To access to tailored CPD and opportunities to lead or innovate within the curriculum. To work in a values-based school. To work in a school that values outdoor learning and community spirit. How to Apply If you have a passion for primary education and want to make a real difference in a community-focused setting, we would love to hear from you! Visits to the school are warmly encouraged. Please contact the school office on 01234 740202 or email hcschool@hcschool.org.uk to arrange a tour. Safeguarding & Equal Opportunities Houghton Conquest Primary is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). We are an Equal Opportunities Employer. The school operates a ‘safer recruitment process’. In line with DfE Keeping Children Safe in Education, an online search will be completed for all shortlisted applicants prior to interview.
