About the role

St George’s CofE (Aided) Primary School is seeking to appoint a reliable, hardworking, and motivated Cleaner in Charge / Key Holder to join our friendly and dedicated site team. This is an important role within the school, helping to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day cleaning operation, supporting the cleaning team to deliver consistently high standards, and ensuring all areas of the school are maintained to an excellent standard. As a Key Holder, you will also play a vital role in the security of the premises, carrying out opening and closing procedures and ensuring the site remains secure at all times. Working in a busy school environment, you will be adaptable, proactive, and able to respond effectively to changing priorities and operational needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, has strong organisational skills, and is committed to creating a positive environment in which children can learn and thrive.

Key Information:

Hours & Pay 18.75 hours per week Monday to Friday, 3:00pm to 6:45pm Term time plus 2 weeks (40 weeks per year) Hourly rate: £13.70 This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a part-time role that fits around school hours and holidays, while contributing to a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. Duties will include: Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout classrooms, offices, corridors, and communal areas. Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping a variety of floor surfaces to ensure a clean and safe environment. Cleaning and sanitising toilets, washrooms, and welfare facilities. Emptying bins and disposing of waste in accordance with school procedures and health and safety guidelines. Safely using cleaning equipment, machinery, and cleaning products. Carrying out scheduled and reactive cleaning tasks to support the day-to-day operation of the school. Adapting cleaning duties as required to meet the changing needs of the school environment. Reporting any maintenance issues, hazards, or stock shortages to the relevant member of staff. Contributing to a safe, welcoming, and hygienic learning environment for pupils, staff, and visitors The ideal candidate will: Previous cleaning experience is desirable but not essential Be reliable, hardworking, and take pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to their work. Be flexible, adaptable, and able to respond effectively to changing priorities and daily requirements. Work confidently both independently and as part of a wider team. Have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a commitment to providing a safe and pleasant environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. Be punctual, organised, and capable of managing their workload effectively. Previous cleaning experience is desirable; however, full training will be provided for the right candidate. Have an understanding of health and safety procedures, or a willingness to learn. We warmly encourage visits to the school.
