Head of Year

Nether Stowe School is seeking to appoint a dedicated and highly organised Head of Year (Non-Teaching) to join our pastoral team. This is an excellent opportunity for an internal member of staff who is passionate about student wellbeing, behaviour, and pastoral care to take on a key leadership role within the school community. The Head of Year will play a vital role in supporting students’ personal development, wellbeing, behaviour, and attendance. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, pastoral staff, teachers, and families, the successful candidate will ensure that all students are supported to achieve their full potential both academically and personally. This is a non-teaching position, focused on leading the pastoral provision for a year group and ensuring high standards of behaviour, attendance, and engagement. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate the pastoral care of a designated year group Monitor and support student attendance, behaviour, and wellbeing Act as the key point of contact for students, parents/carers, and staff regarding pastoral matters Work closely with tutors, safeguarding leads, and senior leaders to support vulnerable students Implement behaviour and attendance strategies in line with school policies Support restorative conversations and behaviour interventions Analyse pastoral data to identify trends and implement appropriate support Promote a positive culture and sense of belonging within the year group Contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing support across the school What you'll need to succeed Have strong interpersonal and organisational skills Be able to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff Be calm, resilient, and solution-focused when managing challenging situations Have experience working with young people in an educational or pastoral setting Be committed to promoting high standards of behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing Demonstrate discretion and professionalism when dealing with sensitive matters What you'll get in return A supportive and collaborative working environment Opportunities for professional development and career progression Access to high-quality CPD and mentoring An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and employee benefits package.
