About the role

CORE PURPOSE We require an analytical, highly driven Maths Teacher to deliver outstanding mathematics instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Operating within a progressive mainstream academy framework, the successful candidate will facilitate a structured, mastery-led curriculum designed to foster deep numerical fluency, algebraic reasoning, and confident problem-solving skills, preparing all pupils thoroughly for terminal GCSE Mathematics public examinations. THE SCHOOL Our academy operates as an ambitious, inclusive mainstream secondary school dedicated to high academic standards and cultivating a strong sense of community responsibility. The campus features modern, technology-rich classrooms and a collaborative, forward-thinking math faculty. Our behavior management framework is built upon clear expectations, consistent routines, and mutual respect, maintaining a calm, highly purposeful learning environment that allows pupils to confidently engage in mathematical reasoning and abstract inquiry. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS • Mastery-Led Mathematics Instruction: Plan, resource, and deliver high-quality mathematics lessons across all attainment pathways, embedding consistent retrieval practice to cement foundational numeracy, geometric principles, and algebraic fluency. • Closing Attainment Gaps: Identify and target mathematical misconceptions, deploying structured scaffolding, concrete-pictorial-abstract visual models, and targeted literacy strategies to accelerate the progress of all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND). • Rigorous Examination Preparation: Guide Year 11 cohorts systematically through the demands of terminal Foundation and Higher tier GCSE Mathematics papers, teaching explicit exam techniques, multistep problem-solving, and efficient non-calculator methods. • Data-Driven Interventions: Meticulously analyse formative assessment data and mock exam scripts to pinpoint specific weaknesses, deploying immediate, targeted arithmetic and reasoning interventions to maximize grade-boundary retention. • Community Pastoral Care: Fulfill full form tutor responsibilities within an established year group structure, managing daily registration, delivering pastoral curriculum units, and maintaining proactive, supportive communication with families. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a recognised equivalent teaching credential, paired with a strong honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a closely related quantitative discipline. • Pedagogical Capability: A proven track record or clear capacity to deliver strong progress metrics in terminal public GCSE examinations across both Foundation and Higher tiers through structured, explicit mathematics pedagogy. • Inclusive Mindset: An unwavering commitment to comprehensive education, demonstrating the patience, clarity, and adaptability required to build mathematical confidence and dispel maths anxiety in pupils of all abilities. REGIONAL CONTEXT • Tyneside Innovation & Science Central Heritage: Based in the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, the school capitalizes on a unique regional identity where a proud industrial, engineering, and maritime heritage meets a booming status as a major UK hub for digital tech, data science, and green energy innovations. The close alignment with Newcastle Helix, the city's science central development, and local universities provides rich, real-world links for statistics, financial math, and mechanics modules, connecting classroom learning directly to regional economic growth. • Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from excellent North East transport infrastructure, offering straightforward road commuting via the A1(M) and A19 corridors. Public transit links are exceptional; the academy is seamlessly served by the comprehensive Tyne & Wear Metro network and high-frequency local bus networks, providing rapid, direct connections to Newcastle Central Station and the surrounding Tyneside boroughs, making it easily accessible for professionals across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, and County Durham.
