ROLE: Phase Leader Key Stage 2 Salary Range: MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance of £2786 + TLR2a of £3526 Location: The Heights Academy, Auckland Dr, Birmingham, B36 0DD Contract: Full time, Permanent Start Date: 1 January 2027

This is encompassed in our 3 core values: working together with purpose; nurturing potential; inspiring success. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Phase Leader to join The Heights Academy. The Heights Academy opened in September 2023, initially to pupils in Key Stage 2 and 3, but over time, will grow to cater for 116 pupils across Key Stage 2, 3 and 4. All pupils at The Heights Academy have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), with some pupils presenting with associated Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
To lead meaningful improvement in teaching and learning within Key Stage 2. To develop the Explorer Pathway across KS2, KS3 and KS4, creating a coherent and appropriately adapted curriculum for pupils working well below age-related expectations in line with pupil needs using specialist approaches. To improve pupils’ progress, wellbeing and independence, particularly for all pupils who have autism and EHCPs. To develop staff, through mentoring, modelling effective practice and delivering targeted CPD for KS2 and the Explorer Pathway. To contribute to school strategy, using assessment, pupil progress information and interventions to improve outcomes.
Be able to plan and deliver engaging, appropriately differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with ASC and associated SEND. Be able to adapt learning programmes in response to pupils’ EHCP outcomes, abilities, interests and aspirations. Create a structured, predictable and supportive learning environment in which pupils feel safe, valued and ready to learn. Have experience of coaching and developing staff.
