Buildings Officer - Byron Wood Academy Salary: £29,542 - £31,526 per annum

We are looking to appoint a dedicated and reliable Buildings Officer to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied, hands-on role and takes pride in maintaining high standards across a busy school environment. Working closely with the Operations Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring our buildings, grounds and facilities remain safe, secure and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors.
This is a full time role, 37hrs per week, 52 weeks per year. Working hours are 7am-3pm Monday to Thursday and 7am-2:30pm on Friday.
Key Responsibilities As our Buildings Officer, you will:
Maintain the safety, cleanliness and presentation of the school buildings and grounds, carrying out routine inspections and repairs as required.
Hold keyholder responsibilities, including unlocking and securing the site, operating alarms and responding to security incidents when necessary.
Carry out general maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, joinery, decorating and minor repairs.
Support the academy's compliance with statutory requirements, including fire safety checks, emergency lighting inspections and Legionella control procedures.
Keep external areas clean, safe and accessible, including litter collection, leaf clearance, gritting and snow removal during adverse weather.
Liaise with contractors and support site-based works, reporting any concerns and ensuring work is completed to a satisfactory standard.
Respond promptly to emergencies such as flooding, vandalism or break-ins, helping to make areas safe and reporting issues appropriately.
Assist with the movement, collection and procurement of equipment, materials and supplies required for the effective operation of the school.
What We're Looking For We are seeking someone who:
Has experience of caretaking, site maintenance, facilities management or a similar hands-on role.
Possesses practical maintenance skills and can confidently undertake a range of basic repairs.
Understands the importance of health, safety and security within a school or public setting.
Takes a proactive approach and can work independently to identify and resolve issues.
Has excellent organisational skills and can prioritise a varied workload effectively.
Demonstrates reliability, flexibility and a strong commitment to maintaining high standards.
Communicates well with colleagues, contractors and visitors.
Holds, or is willing to obtain, the relevant licence and training required to drive a school minibus.
