About the role

Teacher of English Required for January 2027 Salary: MPS/UPS (Potential Key Stage TLR for the right candidate) Full-Time An excellent opportunity has arisen to join a very successful and forward-thinking English Department within a school on a rapid improvement journey. Applicants will have had experience of teaching English across the ability range and must be passionate, well-organised and hardworking, with high expectations of students and colleagues. Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to develop teaching resources and other assessment materials. ECTs are welcome to apply. At Archbishop Ilsley Catholic School, you will join a supportive and ambitious English Department committed to securing the very best outcomes for every student. The department is passionate about developing confident readers, writers and communicators, while fostering a genuine love of literature and learning. As part of our ongoing improvement journey, we are committed to reflecting on practice, sharing ideas and using effective pedagogy to ensure every student can succeed. Our English curriculum is rich, challenging and diverse, exposing students to a broad range of classic and modern literature, non-fiction and poetry. Across Key Stages 3-5, students study a wide range of texts and develop their language, literacy, critical thinking and cultural understanding. We have high expectations for all students and aim to provide an engaging curriculum that encourages them to think critically, develop their vocabulary and achieve their full potential. The department also offers a range of enrichment opportunities, including theatre visits, reading initiatives, World Book Day, debate and literacy projects. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of English to join Archbishop Ilsley at an important stage in our school’s improvement journey, working alongside colleagues who are passionate about making a real difference to the lives and learning of our students. Archbishop Ilsley is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
