About the role

“The world as we know it is not ‘given’ and it can and it will change.” - Lambert et al We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Geography to join our successful and supportive Humanities team on a fixed-term basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding Teacher, or an ambitious Early Career Teacher, to inspire students and help them achieve exceptional outcomes. The aim of the Laurus Trust geography curriculum is to inspire all students, regardless of background or circumstance, to become confident, self-assured and globally-informed citizens who are able to engage in lifelong conversations about the world. The geography curriculum not only aims to develop extensive substantive knowledge of a wide range of places, environments and features, but also develop the procedural knowledge essential for students to understand and interrogate geographical claims about the world around them. Our curriculum will enable students to understand how the world was shaped and how it continues to be shaped by human and physical processes. As the curriculum progresses, students will develop their ability to explain the interdependence between these processes and their influences on changes in physical and human environments. The geography curriculum seeks to find the answers to challenging enquiry questions through developing students’ ability to think geographically. Our students will learn how to identify and explore alternative perspectives on contemporary geographical debates and think critically to challenge assumptions and stereotypes. It is increasingly important that our students’ experience of geography in The Laurus Trust takes them beyond the limits of their own personal experience and helps them to develop an awareness of their own place in the world, their impacts on it and how its future will be shaped by the next generations. For further details on the role, including key skills and experience required, please see the Job Description and Person Specification attached below. To learn more about what the Trust offer, including our wide range of employee benefits and access to further professional learning, visit our Careers page. The Laurus Trust recognises the importance of employees' work/life balance. A better work-life balance can increase staff motivation, reduce employee stress, improve performance and productivity and make employment more accessible for more people. Where it is possible and practical, we will accommodate flexible arrangements from day 1, which may involve job sharing, part-time working, bespoke timetabling or a nine-day fortnight. If you would like to join our Laurus family in a rewarding role that changes the lives of our students by empowering them to become the best that they can be then we would love to hear from you. Please note a full application must be submitted as CV’s will unfortunately not be accepted in line with our safer recruitment process. We reserve the right to interview prior to the closing date. Disability Confident Employer We value diversity and are committed to equal opportunities. We are an inclusive employer and welcome all applications. Disabled candidates who meet the minimum criteria on the person specification will be guaranteed an interview. If you require any reasonable adjustments for an interview, please highlight this to our Recruitment Team in advance.
