“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” – Dr. Seuss Do you want to make a real difference to children who need adults to understand them before they can learn? Fairstead Community Primary and Nursery School is looking to appoint a committed, calm and nurturing Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join The Nest, our nurture provision for children who need additional support to develop emotional regulation, positive relationships, confidence and readiness to learn. The Nest is part of our wider Inclusion Team. It is a purposeful, supportive provision where children receive targeted help while continuing to develop their independence and successful participation in school life. We believe children should move through provision as their needs change rather than remain in a setting indefinitely.

About the role

Working alongside experienced staff, you will support individual children and small groups both within The Nest and across the wider school. You will help children to feel safe, regulated and ready to learn, while maintaining high expectations and a consistent approach. Build positive, trusting relationships with children who may find school challenging. Support emotional regulation, behaviour for learning and social development. Work 1:1 and with small groups to deliver targeted support. Help children develop confidence, resilience, independence and successful learning behaviours. Use consistent routines, boundaries and positive approaches to support children effectively. Work closely with teachers, the Inclusion Team and other professionals to meet individual needs. Contribute to a calm, structured and nurturing environment. Support learning activities and programmes under the direction of teaching and senior staff. What we are looking for We are looking for someone who is warm, reliable and resilient, with the ability to remain calm and purposeful when children are dysregulated or struggling. You will need to see behaviour as communication, while also maintaining clear expectations and boundaries. Experience of working with primary-aged children. A secure understanding of, or experience working with, children with SEMH or additional needs. The ability to build meaningful and trusting relationships with children and colleagues. Effective behaviour management and de-escalation skills. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team. Patience, resilience and a reflective approach to your own practice. Good literacy and numeracy skills; GCSE English and Maths or equivalent is desirable. A willingness to learn and develop your understanding of SEMH, trauma-informed practice and inclusive approaches. Our Inclusion Team You will join a well-established and highly collaborative Inclusion Team supporting a wide range of needs, including SEMH, cognition and learning, speech and language, autism, complex needs and emotional literacy. The team includes specialist staff and a non-class-based SENDCO, and works closely together to ensure children receive the right support at the right time. Why work at Fairstead? A strong and developing SEMH and nurture offer. A knowledgeable, supportive and collaborative Inclusion Team. Structured induction and ongoing professional development. Training in SEMH, trauma-informed and evidence-informed approaches. A school culture centred on relationships, consistency and high expectations. Opportunities to develop your skills and experience within a large primary school. A genuine commitment to staff wellbeing and continual improvement. Our school Fairstead Community Primary and Nursery School is a forward-thinking, community-focused school in King's Lynn. We are ambitious for every child and particularly for those who need the greatest support to succeed. We believe that all children can succeed, that relationships drive positive change, and that staff development and reflection are central to improving outcomes. Visits welcome We strongly encourage prospective candidates to visit The Nest and meet our team. You will be assured a warm welcome.
