Venn Academy Trust Home Tuition Tutor The Sullivan Centre 5 days per week, 35 hours per week, permanent, (term time plus training days) Grade 7 Scale Point 20-24 Starting salary will be £26,877.77 Our Multi Academy Trust is a group of inspirational and aspirational mainstream and specialist schools in Hull whose main objective is to ensure that all pupils make exceptional progress. The Sullivan Centre, is a short term educational provision which supports young people within Hull and out of county areas who are unable to access their present school due to a diverse range of medical and mental health needs. The tutor will be supporting a young person with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) who has significant cognitive, sensory, and physical needs. Their communication is highly impacted, with severely delayed language skills and restricted physical access to communication methods. Learning is therefore delivered through sensory‑based experiences, close observation of subtle cues, and consistent, predictable routines that help them understand what is happening around them. The tutor’s role is to create meaningful learning opportunities that match the young person’s developmental level, using multi‑sensory approaches, gentle interaction, and patient, responsive support. Success in this role relies on being able to recognise small signs of engagement, adapt activities to the young person’s physical positioning, and work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure the young person can participate as fully as possible in their educational programme.

The service encompasses:

The Sullivan Centre, classroom based tuition (co located at Venn Boulevard Centre); Hospital Schoolroom (located at Hull Royal Infirmary); Home Tuition Service providing an Outreach education and support service to pupils and schools. Inpatient Schoolroom (located at Inspire, the region’s new CAMHS (Children’s & Adolescent Mental Health service) inpatient facility) Our overarching aim is for each pupil to improve all aspects of their learning, emotional wellbeing, social development and employability, so that they can either return to mainstream school or be supported in accessing the most effective setting to enhance and improve their chances and opportunities in the future. Through a personalised curriculum pupils are challenged and inspired to achieve, despite the challenges which they may face. A combined curriculum of academic skills and creative learning opportunities, ensures that each pupil advances in their educational and personal development journeys’. The Sullivan Centre is looking for a creative, motivational, patient and innovative tutor to work with children who are too unwell to attend school.

This person will be appointed to:

Provide specialist home education on a 1:1 basis to pupils as required providing education in a non-school venue either in the home, another setting or virtually online. Supporting pupils with complex medical and mental health needs, in the home on site or one of our off site provisions. Support the academic, social, emotional and development of individual pupils understanding clearly how pupils’ learn Provide effective support to maximise the attainment and accelerate the progress of individuals where appropriate when pupils are away from school You will have some experience of supporting pupils with SEN and be committed to working with others to maximise the educational and social opportunities available for children and young people who often are the most vulnerable. We ideally would like this role to start as soon as possible, however this would be negotiable.
