Welfare Officer

Epping St John’s Church of England School is seeking a caring, approachable and highly organised Pupil Welfare Officer to join our dedicated pastoral team. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting the welfare, safety and wellbeing of our pupils. You will provide support to pupils who may be experiencing emotional, social or personal difficulties, helping them to feel safe, valued and able to engage positively with school life. You will work closely with pupils, parents/carers, teachers, pastoral staff, safeguarding colleagues and external agencies to ensure that appropriate support is provided. Key Responsibilities Promote the welfare, wellbeing and safeguarding of all pupils. Provide a welcoming and supportive point of contact for pupils experiencing difficulties. Identify concerns relating to pupils' wellbeing, attendance, behaviour or welfare and take appropriate action. Support pupils with emotional, social and personal issues. Maintain accurate and confidential records relating to pupil welfare. Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and wider pastoral team. Liaise effectively with parents/carers and relevant external agencies. Support the school's attendance and punctuality procedures where appropriate. Contribute to safeguarding, pastoral and wellbeing initiatives across the school. Promote positive relationships and an inclusive, supportive school environment. Follow school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding and confidentiality. About You We are looking for someone who: Has experience of working with children or young people in an educational, pastoral, social care or similar setting. Is compassionate, approachable and able to build trusting relationships with pupils. Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Can respond calmly and appropriately to sensitive or challenging situations. Has a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Is organised, reliable and able to maintain accurate records. Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Understands the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
