About the role

PURPOSE -To provide practical and technical support to the Science Department, ensuring that lessons are well

resourced, equipment is maintained safely, and practical activities are prepared efficiently to support

high-quality teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities

Practical Lesson Support

Prepare, set out and clear away equipment and materials for science lessons.

Prepare chemical solutions, specimens and apparatus as required.

Provide technical support for practical investigations and demonstrations.

Health and Safety

Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including CLEAPSS guidance.

Carry out risk assessments for practical activities where appropriate.

Store chemicals, equipment and materials safely and securely.

Dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.

Conduct routine safety checks of laboratories and equipment.

Resource Management

Maintain stock levels and order equipment, chemicals and consumables.

Keep accurate inventory records.

Organise and maintain laboratories, preparation rooms and storage areas.

Check, clean and undertake basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Administration

Maintain records of equipment, chemicals and safety checks.

Assist with departmental administration as required.

Support the organisation of science events, trips and enrichment activities.

Professional

Responsibilities

Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people.

Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Participate in relevant training and professional development.

Support the school's policies, procedures and values.
