Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Safeguarding Officer to join our team. Working with the Deputy Headteacher & Safeguarding Lead (DSL) you will take responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school (including online safety). You will participate in discussions and inter-agency meetings and contribute to the assessment of children, advising and supporting other members of staff on child welfare, safeguarding and child protection matters and liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police. At Tadcaster Grammar School [TGS] we put the needs of students at the forefront of our decision making and practice. Our curricular and co-curricular offer responds to the aims and aspirations of individuals and we structure these as a 7-year experience. The school is fortunate to have a highly committed and talented staff and governing body and our students are motivated, articulate and keen to learn. TGS is a larger than average school, but we organise our pastoral systems so everyone is seen, heard and valued. Our entry into the Yorkshire Learning Trust in 2025 as a partner school has strengthened our ability to ensure all students enjoy their learning and wider school experience. Our school ambition focuses on developing a culture whereby all students can achieve highly and will be supported whatever their background or ability. This relies on providing learning and teaching of the highest possible quality to engage, enthuse and motivate. At TGS we do not limit our definition of achievement simply to traditionally academic pursuits. As part of the Yorkshire Learning Trust, TGS provides a high-quality learning community that inspires and motivates its employees as well as its students. Thus we are seeking a candidate who wants to make a positive difference to the lives of young people and has a commitment to lifelong learning in order to be an outstanding member of our team. We support colleagues who are ambitious for their own professional development, have a ‘can do’ attitude, are creative problem solvers and work collaboratively. Unlock Your Potential and Thrive with the Yorkshire Learning Trust! We're dedicated to supporting our staff with a comprehensive package of opportunities, incentives, and benefits designed to enhance your well-being and career growth. Enjoy: Exclusive Savings and Experiences: Dive into our employee benefits website, your gateway to fantastic discounts on everything from everyday shopping to dream holidays and unforgettable days out. Your Well-being Matters: Access our confidential Employee Assistance helpline for expert advice and support, empowering you to navigate life's challenges with confidence. Invest in Your Future: Embrace continuous training and development opportunities, fostering your professional growth and unlocking new possibilities. A Safe and Inclusive Environment: At YLT, the safeguarding of children is paramount. We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment for all. As part of our commitment, successful candidates will undergo DBS checks, pre-employment checks, and online searches, all conducted with professionalism and respect for your privacy. We champion equality and ensure fair and equitable treatment for every member of our team. At YLT we believe that diversity and inclusion are integral to our success. We are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to achieve their full potential. We actively seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. We celebrate the unique contributions of each team member and are dedicated to fostering a culture of equality, where differences are not only embraced but are seen as a source of strength. We understand that diversity drives innovation and creativity, and we are dedicated to building a diverse team that reflects the communities we serve. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is reflected in our policies, practices, and the way we do business. We strive to ensure that our recruitment processes are fair, unbiased, and inclusive, and we are continuously working to improve them. Visit the website for access to our recruitment policies.
