Job description

Are you organised, warm and approachable? At Summerswood Primary School, we are looking for a kind, caring and highly organised Office Administrator to join our busy and welcoming school office team. Our school office is at the heart of school life. Every day is different, and we are looking for someone who can bring calmness, warmth, professionalism and a good sense of humour to whatever the day brings! You will be one of the first people our children, families, staff and visitors meet, so it is important to us that you are someone who naturally makes people feel welcome, listened to and valued. This is a role for someone who… Enjoys working with people and is friendly, approachable and kind. Can remain calm and positive when things get busy - because school life can certainly bring its challenges! Is highly organised and able to juggle lots of different tasks and priorities. Has excellent communication skills and can communicate sensitively and professionally with children, parents, staff and visitors. Is confident dealing with questions, problems and sometimes difficult conversations. Has a good eye for detail and takes pride in getting things right. Is a team player who is happy to support colleagues and contribute to the wider life of the school. Is adaptable and willing to turn their hand to whatever is needed to help the school run smoothly. Understands that working in a school is about much more than administration - it is about people, relationships and keeping children safe. What will you be doing? The role is varied and no two days are likely to be exactly the same. You will be involved in the day-to-day running of our school office, including: Being a welcoming first point of contact for families, children, staff and visitors. Managing telephone calls, emails and enquiries. Supporting school admissions and maintaining accurate pupil records. Communicating with parents through our school systems. Managing school dinners, trips, swimming, milk and other pupil arrangements. Processing letters, forms, consents and other school documentation. Supporting the management of safeguarding information through CPOMS. Supporting staff with DBS checks, training and administrative processes. Managing the school website and school photographs. Handling money, payments and outstanding balances. Providing general administrative support, including filing, photocopying, typing and record keeping. Supporting the School Business Manager/Secretary and wider school team whenever needed. Why Summerswood? We are proud of our school and the people who make it special. We want everyone who works at Summerswood to feel that they are part of something important. Our children deserve adults around them who are positive, caring and committed to helping them shine. Our families deserve a school office that is welcoming, helpful and responsive. And our staff deserve colleagues who work together, support one another and approach challenges with a 'we'll work it out' attitude. If you are someone who can bring warmth and professionalism to a busy school environment, who enjoys being part of a team and who understands that sometimes the most important thing you can do is simply listen, reassure and help - we would love to hear from you. The person we are looking for You will ideally have experience of working in an administrative or school office environment and be confident using computer systems. You will have good literacy and numeracy skills and excellent written and verbal communication. Most importantly, you will care about people. You will understand the importance of confidentiality, safeguarding and professionalism, while also recognising that behind every phone call, email or query is a child, parent or member of staff who may simply need someone to help them. If you are warm, kind, organised, resilient and ready to embrace all that school life brings, you could be exactly the person we are looking for. Come and join the Summerswood team. We would love to meet you. Summerswood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and all appropriate pre-employment checks.
