Job description

Are you passionate about working with children and helping them to succeed? Are you looking for a school that will invest in and support your future career aspirations? We are looking for Teaching Assistants to work in Year 5. Hours 8.30 - 3.15 Monday to Friday. Our ideal person would be someone who loves being around children, nurturing them to try new things and enjoy everyday at school. You will greet the children each morning with a reassuring smile, supporting them to skip into school excited about the creative and imaginative activities that await them. You will work closely with the class teacher to support learning within the classroom and deliver small group or one to one support when needed. Through working with a team who go over and above, you will leave work feeling like you have made a difference each day and have been valued for the part you have played in each child’s development. Our school is a two-form entry school on the development of Shilton Park in Carterton. The children and staff often talk about the family of St John’s and the unity within the school, where we all work together and support each other. As a school we are fully committed to ensuring that every child and adult reaches their full potential. Our school was judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in January 2020, a judgement maintained in our May 2025 inspection. Noted in the report, ‘Staff are proud to work at the school. They feel greatly supported by leaders and governors.’ We have a proven track record of supporting support staff in completing further qualifications through specific courses as well as degrees and teacher training. In this role you will support the class teacher in supporting learning across the curriculum, as well as providing support for children with additional needs through one to one and group support. If you feel that you are just the person we are looking for, give us a call for a chat or to arrange a visit. Applications welcome from people who want to work full or part time. Visits to the school are important to discuss the role and see the children within the school - email: head.2613@st-john.oxon.sch.uk. Applications should be made through the My New Term website. Safer Recruitment We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.
