Job description

As a School Medical Officer you will hold a recognised First Aid qualification and your main responsibility is to provide first aid support to students and staff in case of injury or illness on school premises, assessing the situation, administering appropriate first aid treatment, and coordinating further medical care when necessary, while adhering to all relevant health and safety guidelines and maintaining accurate records of incidents. You will be giving immediate help to casualties with common injuries or illnesses, provide administration and monitoring of medical support plans and ensure medical plans for students are in place and shared with staff. You will also act as the school's designated allergy lead, working to ensure that the school meets and exceeds the best practice guidelines laid out in the Schools’ Allergy Code from The Allergy Team. The role is demanding and you will be expected to lead on student medical needs. The ability to work professionally under pressure, to meet deadlines and operate flexibly within the changing needs of the school is essential. Knowledge of the school environment is desirable but not essential as training can be provided. Excellent communication skills are essential as is enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to play an active role in the life of the school. You will work alongside our Student Services team and the mental health first aiders to provide a holistic, supportive environment. Requirements for the role: 3-day First Aid Qualification or willingness to take the 3-day qualification course Medical knowledge: Basic understanding of common childhood illnesses and injuries Strong communication skills - the ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and families in emergency situations Decision-Making Skills: Ability to quickly assess situations and make appropriate first aid decisions Professionalism: Maintain a calm and composed demeanor during emergencies Key responsibilities of the School Medical Officer role are to: Assess and treat students and staff with first aid Responsibility for updating and maintaining records Logging first aid incidents and reporting accidents to H&S team Safely store prescription medication in a locked cupboard or fridge and provide to students as required Liaise with families to keep individual health care plans and medical records up to date Prepare a PEEP for students who return following an operation or injury. Undertake risk assessments for staff and students as necessary Liaise with Bucks Immunisation Team to coordinate in school vaccinations Maintain data systems with accurate medical records Maintain trip medical bags and stock levels, ensuring the medical room and equipment is clean and tidy Co-ordinate with the other school medical officer (who works Mon - Wed) to ensure a seamless process About The Misbourne: The Misbourne is an 11-18 mixed school single-academy trust in the picturesque village of Great Missenden in the heart of the Chilterns.
