About the role

Few roles in a school have the power to change a child's experience of education in the way that a Learning Mentor can. Every day presents an opportunity to build confidence, nurture resilience and help children overcome barriers that may otherwise limit their potential. Through trusted relationships, compassionate support and skilled intervention, you will help children feel safe, valued and successful, creating foundations that can positively influence the rest of their lives. At Netherthorpe Primary School, we believe that every child deserves an adult who champions them, celebrates their achievements and helps them navigate life's challenges. As our Learning Mentor, you will be at the heart of this work. You will support children and families through both everyday successes and more complex circumstances, helping to strengthen wellbeing, improve engagement and ensure that every child feels a true sense of belonging. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is passionate about making a difference. Working closely with children, families, staff and external professionals, you will lead pastoral interventions, support positive behaviour and play a key role in removing barriers to learning and development. No two days will be the same, but every day will provide an opportunity to have a meaningful impact on a child's life. This is a varied, rewarding and highly impactful role. You will work directly with children who need additional pastoral support, deliver targeted interventions and wellbeing groups, and play a key role in supporting our Senior Leadership Team to promote positive behaviour and engagement across school. You will build strong relationships with children, families and external agencies, helping to ensure that every child receives the support they need to succeed.

The

successful candidate will:

  • Provide pastoral support for children identified as needing additional help with their wellbeing, behaviour, attendance or engagement with school.
  • Deliver a range of pastoral interventions and small group programmes that promote confidence, resilience, emotional wellbeing and positive relationships.
  • Work closely with children to identify barriers to learning and participation and support them to overcome these.
  • Support the Senior Leadership Team in embedding positive behaviour strategies across school to help children make positive choices.
  • Build positive and supportive relationships with parents and carers, acting as a key point of contact where appropriate.
  • Liaise effectively with a range of external agencies and professionals to provide coordinated support for children and families.
  • Help identify personal, family, community and school-based issues that may be impacting on a child's wellbeing, attendance or behaviour.
  • Contribute to the development of a nurturing, inclusive ethos where every child feels valued, supported and able to succeed.
  • Work collaboratively with staff across the school to ensure children receive joined-up support that meets their individual needs.
  • Support children attending breakfast and after-school clubs, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment that promotes wellbeing, confidence and positive social interaction.
  • Accompany and support children on school trips, visits and residentials, helping them to engage fully in these experiences and ensuring appropriate pastoral support is available beyond the classroom

We

are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families.
  • Is patient, kind and able to build positive relationships with children from all backgrounds.
  • Understands the challenges some children and families face and approaches these with empathy and compassion.
  • Is curious, reflective and solution-focused.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Can remain calm, professional and resilient in challenging situations.
  • Is a positive role model for children.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and values collaboration.
  • Has high expectations for every child and believes all children can succeed.
