Pay rise and back pay calculator 2026/27

Teachers get 3.5% from 1 September 2026 and support staff get 3.3% from 1 April 2026. Back pay = monthly rise × months since the award took effect. M1 rises £1,153; SCP 3 rises £818.

The maths

  1. Yearly rise = (£34,069 − £32,916) × 1 = £1,153.00
  2. Monthly rise = £1,153.00 ÷ 12 = £96.08
  3. Months owed = from Sep 2026 up to (not incl.) the first month paid = 3
  4. Back pay = £96.08 × 3 = £288.24

How back pay is worked out

We take the difference between the 2025/26 and 2026/27 full-time rate for your point, scale it by your working pattern, divide by 12 for the monthly rise and multiply by the months between the award date and the month you first got the new rate.

Frequently asked questions

When will I get my back pay?

Usually in the first payslip after your employer applies the new rates. It's taxed in that month, so the payment after tax may look lower than expected.

Does back pay include overtime and allowances?

Allowances that rise with the award (such as TLRs and SEN) and pay-related overtime should also be back-dated. This calculator covers base pay.

Is the 2026/27 teacher award confirmed?

It follows the STRB's 36th report. We label figures provisional until the STPCD 2026 is published.
