Notice for teachers and support staff
Teachers' notice is tied to the end of a term so pupils aren't left mid-term. Support staff notice is set by contract — usually one month, longer for senior roles.
Frequently asked questions
What if the deadline is on a weekend?
Your notice must be received by the deadline, so hand it in by the last working day before.
Do academies use the same dates?
Most follow the Burgundy Book dates, but check your contract.
Can I leave sooner?
Only by agreement with your employer, who can release you early.
