The maths

  1. FTE = 3 days ÷ 5 = 0.6
  2. Actual salary = (£38,400 + £0 TLR + £0 SEN) × 0.6 = £23,040.00
  3. Directed time = 1265 × 0.6 = 759 hours
  4. PPA = 10% of 13.5 timetabled hours = 1.35 hours

Part-time teachers can't be directed to work on days or parts of days they aren't contracted to work, except by agreement (STPCD).

Frequently asked questions

How is FTE worked out for teachers?

Usually days worked ÷ 5, or your hours ÷ the school's full-time session hours. Your contract states it.

Do part-time teachers get PPA?

Yes. All teachers with timetabled teaching get at least 10% of that time as PPA.

Can I be asked to attend meetings on my day off?

Not as directed time. Part-time teachers can only be directed on days or parts of days they're contracted to work, unless they agree.
